Hardening water...

I was reading somewhere that Tiger Barbs prefer hard water. The water
from my tap, however, is really soft. Should I do anything about this?
If so, what?

I know that I could just try to let the evaporative process concentrate
minerals in the tank. But since I have to do partial water changes once
or twice a week, that could take a really long time.

P.S.--Please, no jokes about freezing the water to harden it.

Freezing? I've never tried that ;~). What is your current water
hardness in ppm or dgH? I suspect that you would be better off leaving
the water exactly as it is.
