What a difference 24 hours made!
I had to move my 2 freshwater crayfish to a gallon tank since I
suspected that they were attacking my corys. I was watching one
crayfish one night while it was making threatenign gestures at me. I
suppose it thought it was the king of the world. Next morning, I
noticed that it had molted. I found its empty shell lying at the
bottom of the tank. After noticing that it would not come down from
its hiding place in my silk plants, so I chased it down using a wooden
stick. That was when I noticed that it was missiing its two pinchers,
2 legs and one of its major feelers. Apparently, its tank mate had
attacked it at its most vulnerable. I moved it back to my main tank
since without its pinchers, it is no longer a threat to my corys. I
noticed that along with 5 of its appendages, the confidence of my
crayfish evaporated. It is curled up like a ball, and harding moving.
Scary how things can change for living things in an instants isn't it?
Lucky for my crayfish, it will get its appendages back after one or two
moltings. In the meantime, I can keep it in my main tank.
