My lilies are shooting up leaves and the fish are spawning like rabbits on
viagra. The water got up to 60 degrees and so I was able to get in up to my
navel (still chilly at the navel level!) and do some cleaning I should have
done last fall.
The only odd thing is that I have a lot of mushy, dead WH this year. Those
of you expecting some from me may have to wait a few more weeks.
Now if it would just stop raining long enough for the soil to dry up a
little.

That is putting it rather nicely - I would have added a #%&$*..... When my
Dad was alive he would taunt us on a regular basis with their 'outside in

I do wish I could do a visual of rubbing my thumb and finger together to

Eeeek! I hope I don't end up with a pond full of fry like the year before
last. Oh well, I sold them off and made enough to cover expenses. We've
already got several frogs out there.

By the end of the month here in TN we will be much milder weather, but will
get some of those beautiful 60 degree days here and there. This time of
year I'm itching to get out and play with the ponds, my flower beds and
veggie patch. I'll probably just do tomatoes, peppers and zucchini again.
The first order of the day is once more removing the rocks from the 150
gallon inground pool so I can fix the leak once and for all.

If this was rec.authors, or rec.writers group, emoticons are very :-(
frowned upon, one should write well enough to get their point across
without such in that type of group.
Unfortunately we're not all so talented, and sometimes stuff can come
across as sarcasm and sarcasm can be taken two ways. 1) Hurtful to make the
receivers seem stupid, or used to be funny and poke fun. The later needs to
use an emoticon so it is not mistaken, imho. The former is taken serious.
Then there are those who can't write worth a twit and ought to use
emoticons ALL THE TIME! ;o) ~ jan

And I went and turned the pumps back on, on my big pond. I guess I'll have
to shut them off tomorrow. The water was over 50F degrees a few days ago.
I don't enjoy working with my ponds and around water when it's cold. :-(

======================================
I never thought of the leaves in the flower and veggie beds. I rake them up
in the fall and we grind them to rot down all winter. By spring they make a
great mulch around the plants. We have a huge compost pile every year. The
only place we find frogs are in the propagation pools behind the house. Or
one or two small ones manage to squeeze through the bird netting over the
ponds out front. They winter over in the pools out back, among the plants
and litter on the bottom. I looked the other day and the bullfrog taddies
had little legs. :-) I feed the tadpoles flake fish food because so many
hatch and try to live in these pools. We have no shortage of frogs and
toads around here.

All depends on your type of frog, ours are leaf litter winterers, since
most of the people around me clean up their yards real well, I'm more
careful. ~ jan

In the fall I gather up the leaves our neighbors put out on the street for
pickup and empty them out under my trees (mostly in the fenced back yard so
that they aren't blowing back into the neighbors yard). Rather than being
the local 'log lady (twin peaks)' I'm the neighborhood leaf lady.

Since I live in a large clearing in the woods I'm sure the leaf froggies
have plenty of hiding places in winter. Sometimes the leaves are 2' deep
between the limestone rocks and downed rotting old trees. It's a great
place for the grandkids to hunt for salamanders, skinks and newts.

LOL. That's really true - it's what's called (at least here) a "barachois"
and is a lagoon closed off from the open ocean by a gravel bar. As there's
minimal exchange with the sea, it's more brackish than genuinely salty.

No problem - just a little touch of the winter blues, here :-)

I don't think I wrote that but it is not such a bad idea... still my
neighbors and their young children might not know how to respond to the
naked body of a flabby 56 year old....

The snow and ice seeds that got planted by a bird in my pond are growing
nicely. Oh and that plant that grows from the bottom up and looks like dead
oak tree leaves. That one is growing nicely too.

Get thyself to the nearest Gym and some WW meetings. :-) BTW, some 56 year
olds still look pretty good out there on the beaches. ;-)

I was laughing so hard at the turn this took that I fell off my chair. The
troll referring to either those of us left coasters who are in the high 60's
with no ice/snow or bragging about walking in the water with frozen navel
and shrinkage or fish on via&*a or . . .
I put a new lily in the depths of my pond and my hand still turned blue . .
.. BUT
found 1 gold fish and 5 darkfish. don't know if any of the others made it,
but these guys were hanging out in the main pond, not in the cave under the
falls.

Some posting software allows you to put comments in the headers of
your posts indicating humour. Keywords can be set, too. If you can see
headers, see this example.

You mean the *wrote something like* above? Wonder if I can do that with

You probably could, but he was referring to a header that is separate from
the normally viewed message. "Subject" is a header, as are "From", "Date"
and "Newsgroups". Or there's the "X-Noarchive" (or something like that)
that people add when they don't want their posts archived - which I rather
doubt works in any of the cases I've seen, because it was actually part of
the body, not the headers.
Crash added "Keywords", which said something like "if these were real
keywords, they'd be funny" :-) I'm sure I could figure out how to set the
header from this newsreader, but it's kind of pointless to set headers that
most readers can't actually use in filters (and even in the Unix world, a
lot of newsreaders don't handle more than a basic set of headers).
