Every once in awhile my two corys sore to the top of the tank and then
dive back down. Half the time they run into plants or other fish on
the way down. (are they near sighted). What's with this?
TIA

The soaring to the top and down again seems characteristic of most corys
I've owned. Don't recall that any of mine ran into plants though.

They take gulps of air. Similar to a gourami's labyrinth organ, many
catfish can obtain oxygen by pushing the air through a section of their
stomach lined with cells which extracts the O2. The impacting of
fish/plants on the way down is just their urgency in getting back down to
the bottom. For catfish, which have a vulnerable spot under their belly,
safety comes from sitting on something solid, and open-water swimming is
a risky activity, especially breaking the water's surface (attracts all
sorts of water, air & land based predators).

It's normal. They cab breath air form our atmosphere like we do. Bettas to
the same things as do some other fish.

Maybe you can get them some tiny glasses so they don't bump into things! LOL!
