I have heard that some fish like to eat peas. how do cichlids feel about
them? I have mostly mbuna, but also a N. Venustus and a M. auratus. I
assumed these peas would have to be 'shelled'. I've been looking for
options to zucs and cucs, and peas, if appropriate, would really do the
trick.

Well, the verdict is in. They HATE peas. My biggest problem the last few
days has been chasing fuzzy, uneaten peas around the bottom of the tank with
a net.

=)

Did you blanche them in hot water, to soften them, and sqeeze them to burst
the skin?

No, I didn't blanch them. I'll try that. Maybe only one or two peas to
start. I did pop them out of the skins. There's something very satisfying
about the way they pop out. =) Should I blanch before or after I burst the
skin?

I take it we are talking about common garden peas here :)

Put two or three of the individual round peas in a metal sieve and put them
into hot water till they are soft, then give them a squeeze so that the
inside is coming out. If you have had 'mushy peas' you will know what I
mean, then drop them into the tank, after they have cooled a little of
course :)
