CPR BakPak 2R or AquaC Remora

I'm replacing my Seaclone 100 and have decided on either the CPR BakPak 2R
or the AquaC Remora. A sump is out of the question unfortunately. What
would you choose? ( I have 75g, 8 small fish, 50lb liverock).

Well my experience is with the CPR BakPak skimmer. I didn't like it very
much. I couldn't seem to get it to produce much skimmate. It was used,
however, so my opinion may be inaccurate. I have researched the Aqua-C
brand though, and I've heard nothing but great comments about them.

I was looking to purchase one recently, but the lfs didn't have one. On a
happier note, I traded in my CPR and got a great deal on a in-sump berlin
style model.

I don't konw about the CPR BakPak 2R, but I do own a Remora, which is
on the back of a 20 gal aquarium.

Overall it functions well enough since the fish and coral are happy and
doing well. The water parameters are always good, amonoa, nitrites 0,
nitrates are always low.

The Remora makes "green tea" skimmer juice, where as my Euro Reef (60
gal tank) makes a nice "expresso".

The way it is designed, the pump is in the water, where it is ugly, and
adds a couple of degrees to water temp. in the summer.

Also it came with a Rio pump, which was very noisey.
I modified things put on an external pump (magdrive) and all is well.

I started out with the prizm and quickly switched to the Remora. I
highly recommend the remora, it's great. I purchased it with the
surface skimmer box. My only complaint is that it takes quite a bit of
room inside the tank. I'm working on a sump right now to move the
skimmer and some other items into.

With a 75, you want to go ahead and spend the money
for a RemoraPro w/Mag pump & Skimmer Box.
It's a good amount to spend on a HOB skimmer, but if
a sump is out of the question, that's what you need.

I highly recommend the skimmer box, first to trap bubbles,
and for your carbon/phos bags when necessary. I always kept
a wad of poly filter in there when I didn't need carbon/phos.

You will have to sand down the removable base of the Mag
to get it to fit in the skimmer box, but that's not a big deal.
Just lay it flat on a piece of W/D sandpaper and work back and forth
for about 20 min. :-)

They are intrusive but that's the price you pay for no sump.
