Is a 2.5 gallon big enough for a Betta?

And what about heating it? I read that you should never put a heater in a
tank that small, but I know they like it warm.

I've got one in a 3g. filtered tank. It likes it's few plastic
plants and floating moss. I solved the heater thing by putting a
heating pad under the plastic tank. I have a timer on it to go on
twice a day for about 4-6 hours each. With the thermometer on the
side I can keep the temp. fluctuations to a minimum.

All the best,

Larry

Sure. I've kept bettas in a 2 gal hex and they usually live for over 2
years happily bubblenesting away. I put a 25W Hagen thermal compact
heater in the tank (smallest I could find) and it's fine. If it ever
breaks and stays on, I'll have bouillibaise, but the one Hagen heater I
had that broke stayed off anyway. I think it's worth the risk to keep a
betta warm and healthy. There are also now tiny heaters designed for
goldfish bowls that you could use.

A 2 1/2 gallon tank is a nice size home for a betta. I have several
of mine in 2 1/2 gallon glass tanks that I bought from Petsmart. I use
the Neptune brand 25 watt heaters and I find them to be very accurate.

Thanks Maria.

We bought a 2.5 as a quarantine tank for a new goldfish we won at a fair.
Now he's moved on into the big GF tank, I can't stand having an empty tank
there...:)

I was walking through the pet store today, noticing that a 29 gal (which I
have...) looks really tiny next to a 55. I held off on the betta today,
because I want to change filters. The one I have agitates the surface too
much.

That's funny I was just noticing how small my 55 looks compared to the
two empty 90's on my floor here.

Bettasngoldfish,

I agree, I love the Neptune 25 watt heaters too. Like you, I find them
very reliable and accurate. I use them in my 2.5 gal hospital tanks.

That's what I'm going to buy. I looked at the local store, they didn't have
that brand, so I'll order on-line.

In the meantime, they had a Striped Raphael Cat, and I've been looking for
one, so now my taank is a Q tank again.

You've got an EMPTY 90?!?! ::drool:: I could stuff that full of betta barracks in a heartbeat or less! I need a big tank as in 55 to 90, just haven't made the space for it yet! Cause once I start breeding my really nice new bettas that I ordered from a Great breeder......

two of them now they dont seem very big at all lol! I wish I had space
for a larger tank. Guess I have to wait till we get a bigger house.
