Thanks In Advance

When I purchased the 304, I recieved a coarse pad filter, hexagonal ceramic
prefilter and cylindrical bio-max material. There wasn't enough to
completely fill all the compartments so purchasing additional filtration
media (most likely the bio-max stuff) might be a good idea.

Just got a 204, coarse foam, carbon, those rock noodles (Bio-Max).
Which leaves one whole media basket empty, with a divider inside half
basket.

My 404 came with 4 pouches of carbon and four bags of the bio-noodles.
Enough to fill all four baskets (8 compartments)

I second that. I love the 404 msf fluval canister filter because it can
be supplemented with one of the best biological filters out there right
now - the biowheel pro 60. You can even suspend the biowheel pro 60
from the top of the tank (with airline hosing) into a shallow aquarium
and the 404 is excellent if not the best as a filter for a shallow
tank. My fluval came with the same media as ray's. Later!
I would add that mine came with coarse foam as well. Later!

When I was a kid you only saw the name "Rolf C. Hagen" on
cans of Tetra-Min. IIRC, he was the North American importer.
Hartz Mountain utterly owned everything else though, and even
wholesaled fish. Today, Hartz who? That fella from Montreal sure
done good.
I'm not a big fluval fan but I wll say the Hagan sponge fitlers
are better than the German tetra ones for longevity. I just wish
they were green like a good German would normally make tubing that
goes in a tank.

Justin,
What the heck is a 'hexagonal ceramic prefilter'? I gather this goes over
the intake?
Mine came with Sponges (4), Biomax (2 compartments) and Carbon (2
compartments), leaving two compartments empty. I put filter floss in the
bottom two compartments, Biomax next and crushed coral in the last two
compartments.

I think he is referring to the biomax material.

No, it's not the Bio-max stuff.
It's the same size and basic shape but is not porous like the Bio-max

Yeah mostly. Just a simple mechanical filter for large debris.

So basically the fluval comes with carbon, sponge and prefilter noodles...
cool
