Sounds like a silly question but do I allow my taller plant to form a
bit of a canopy as it grows past the water line or snip it at water
level? Advantages/disadvantages? I have a 26g bow.

Advatages:
Plant canopies look nice.
Fish feel safer.

Disadvantages:
Food may collect on the leaves where fish can't get to it.
Leaves may cut off light to lower growing plants.

If the leaves aren't cutting off light to the plants below and killing
them and you like the way the canopy looks then leave it. If it's
killing your plants or you don't like the way it looks then cut it
down.

Never works well for me. You get areas od poor circulation and the
water can get pretty cruddy there. If you're gonna get alage it's gonna
start there.
