I JUST got a betta fish and have received conflicting advice on how much and
how often to feed the little guy. I have HBH BETTA Bites. Do I suppliment
with anything else?

I feed mine with the Beta Bites once a day at supper time. Have had him for
18 months now.

A really great website for just about any question you have on betta care is
www.bettatalk.com
I would supplement with things like freeze dried bloodworms, or frozen, or frozen brine shrimp.
Mine are sooo spoiled. No more hikari bio-gold for them! frozen bloodworms, frozen brineshrimp, and freeze dried daphnia!
Just don't be offended when after you give them the good stuff, they turn their noses away from the pellets!

I feed blackworms or thawed frozen bloodworms occasionally instead of
prepared food. As for amount, mine get 3 pellets of baby-sized Hikari
Betta Gold. I don't know how the size compares to Betta Bites. I feed
once or twice a day depending on how hungry he seems.

Hello Nicki
What were you told about Bettas (no fish in the name, as in Goldfish or
Angelfish) and their care and feeding?
I've been a Betta fancier for 27 years and bred them for 19.
There is so much false informationm floating around about Bettas that
it's not surprising you're confused.
Bettas should be fed 2-3 times daily, but in small amounts.
Their stomachs are about the size of their eyes. Don't tell them that
though, because they'd never believe it....not with as much as they
will eat if you let them. Little piggies, they are!
The types of food recommendations that I usually give are more for
Bettas that are kept in a filtered tank. Hopefully your male is.
If he's kept in a bowl, it should be at least a gallon, and kept in a
very warm room. His water temp shouldn't drop below 76*f (which is a
bit too cold for them anyway).
Optimal temp is 78-80*f.
Best foods:
Prepaired foods...any type, as long as it is a quality brand..not
something like Hartz or Wardly or Top Fin---all generic and cheap
quality.
Hikari foods is what I prefer, both dry and frozen.
By dry I mean their pellets, not freeze dried Bloodworms as feeding
that is not recommended. Too much freeze dried foods can cause
constipation, so stick to frozen Bloodworms and Brine Shrimp.
Fry. Baby fish are a great treat for Bettas. (It's only natural for a
predatory fish to eat fry).
Feeding a variety of foods is always best.
However, if your betta doesn't have any filtration.....then feed Hikari
Betta Bio Gold. It will keep his tank water much cleaner than the other
dry food brands out there. I'm not talking about not clouding the water
at feeding time...I'm talking about the tank conditions will stay
cleaner, longer, if fed the Hikari Bio Gold.
Anything else you have a Q on...just ask.

How many Betta bites are you feeding at once?
It would better for your boys system if you broke it down into a
morning and evening feeding.
