Other Creatures with African Cichlids?

Hi,
I am relatively new to the hobby and I am thoroughly enjoying myself!
I have a pretty well established 29 gallon tank with about 20 sm - med
size african cichlids of various sorts. I was wondering if other
creatures (any species of crabs, shellfish, eel, etc.) can live in the
same pH or tank (perhaps after adjusting them to it with a drip) as the
cichlids.

PS I have no interest in breeding if that makes any difference I am not
sure.

How about a North American Carp, the largest ever caught was about 35
feet (~10.66 meters) long, be sure to get 2 so it does not get lonely.

You already have ~140 inches of adult fish in a 29 gallon aquarium.

There are very few "african cichlids of various sorts" that can be
housed in such a short aquarium.

As Jim has already stated, your tank appears to be at full capacity. ;-)
Your stocking level would be better off in a nice 75 gallon tank. If you
decide to set up some type of Tanganyikan biotope, Lake Tanganyika has
several species of eels and a couple crabs that may be worth looking into.
I'd start off by doing a bit more research on your fish, ID them and
possibly forestall the aggression problems I see in your near future.

One of the theories about African cichlids is called Controlled
Overcrowding - I've been doing it for several years and I find that it
actually works pretty well. IF you have lots of filtration.

The main idea is that if you have LOTS of cichlids then they have no
personal turf to defend. If they have nothing to defend, they are
actually LESS aggressive than they would be if they were lightly packed
in an aquarium. And with the constant activity of Malawi's, they are
really a pleasure to watch. With adults and babies, I've had as many as
70 in a 75. That was a BUSY tank!

No, you can have more. I've got 5 yellow labs and 4 exasperatus in a 29,
I just have to watch them closely for over-aggression. The key to
overstocking is correct aquascaping.

Read the post again- he has 20 (twenty) assorted African cichlids
already in his 29 gallon, that is like 100 - 140 inches of adult fish in
a 29 gallon tank.

I have 19 in a 50UK gall tank and am seriously thinking about another filter
right now before they grow - already have a Fluval 304 and another one going
in within the next couple of weeks...no more fish going in there....
