Siamese fighter fish and guppies

[Curious]

Can anyone please advise whether these fish are compatible, thanks.

I had a Male betta in my 45G with Swordtails, guppies, danio's and
bottom dwellers with no problems.

I would imagine that in a smaller tank there might be some issues,
less room for territory, especially when it comes to a male betta vs.
brightly coloured male guppies.

Worth asking around on some of the other newsgroups, as well.

From what I have read there may be an issue with fancy guppies possibly
causing the Betta to see them as rivals and therefore causing
aggression.....I keep my fantail guppies and the Betta in different tanks...

fancy male guppies are not compatible with male bettas.
As each of them have their own personallity, some of the bettas are more
nastier than others....

My betta lives with my apple snail, but you can try corys, large neons.

Tank mates with bettas does depend on tank size. What size tank are you
talking about here??

In this case, size DOES matter! I would only risk it if your betta is one of the more mellow one, and if the guppies are plain. I have seen my fancy delta tail gups get really nippy at each other. And the larger finnage could cause the betta to think of fighting that rival.
My guppies are in one tank, and one of my bettas is in the tank next door. Sparky (betta) will see one of the delta tails and flare at him. Or he will see Goldie, my huge female guppie (she's as big as the betta!) and flare at her.
If you had a huge tank, you might try it, but only if you had somewhere to move your betta if there are problems. You would need plenty of plants (I prefer fake) and decorations to create hiding spaces for all fish involved.

Here is where my points come into play... all the guppies we have are
fancy guppies. In the 45gallon tank, the interaction was minimal, and
I never observed negative interactions.

Every community is different. You can have a perfectly peaceful tank,
have water conditions change slightly, and suddenly one fish may
become nasty.

From the few replies, you get a cross section. Common wisdom states
that the Betta will most likely be aggressive to the smaller brightly
coloured fancy guppies. As my tank shows, it can work, though.

I once kept male bettas in a community tank whichincluded many guppies
without a problem, one tank was a standard 2ft the other was an 18inch.
The original companions i bought for my male betta were 2 corys, the
corys are both still with me, the betta sadly isn't.

Another thing to point out is that bettas vary in personallity....crowntails
esp. are usually very aggressive.
