Green water

Hi all, anybody know the best way to get rid of green water, I have
had the pump running with the UV light on for about two eeks know, and
still green. I am now trying to use interpet green away, anyone ever
tried this before. Or has anybody got any advice on how to get rid of
the algae...

Hmmm, you might want to check the bulb
of your UV light. I don't have one but I know
UV ponders suggest this. The bulbs need
to be changed once in a while.

Other than that, here is my standard
green water answer ;-)

Green Water is caused by single cell algae.
Algae thrives on sun, fresh water, fish waste, fertilized run off,
rotting plants and blown in dirt. In new ponds and spring ponds algae
is always the first thing to start growing.
The best defense against algae is to have lots of plants to compete for
the nutrients, few fish, not overfeeding those fish, some shade and
cleaning up debris.
So not use algaecides, they only make lots of suddenly dead algae to
feed the next algae bloom. Gently remove string algae. Don't worry
about fuzzy algae that grows on the sides of things.
You can purchase an Ultra Violet light set up to eliminate suspended
algae, running the water under the light. It does not work on string
algae.
Filtering with plants works well. I run my water into a stock tank
topped with water hyacinth and down a waterfall planted with
watercress.
Most algae blooms will pass within a couple of weeks.
Time and patience is key.
Remember patience...

Several possibilities I can think of:

UV bulbs lose effectiveness over time, how old is yours?
UV not sized for the the size of the pond.
Something blocking UV inside
Need more plants!
Too many nutrients in water (too many fish, fertilizers getting into
pond, etc etc etc.)

Install a good filter, and have some water plants to eat the
Nitrate.

Since your UV light is not working, perhaps should check to
see if it's still working, or that the flow rate is optimal
with that size UV light.

My pond was totaly green all summer untill i installed a upper small pond
and filled it with plants and let the roots filter the water now it is
crystal clear for the last 3 years . The upper pond is about 3 ft sq the
main pond is 220 gal

That is what has worked for me. I highly recommend it. The only problem
with it is when the plants are slow to take off like they were last year for
me (I use water hyacinths). I also found that the best clarity works with a
slower water flow and not too deep of a filter pond 18" good - 3' not so
good.

What is your maintenance protocol? Water changes? If not, perhaps reading
