And we thought WE have trouble with predators and fish outgrowing tanks...
"MONTEREY, Calif. (Reuters) - A great white shark in captivity for a
record six months was released into the Pacific Ocean on Thursday after
it attacked and killed two smaller sharks in its tank at the Monterey
Bay Aquarium."

Nah..... She was a beauty, just being herself ... a hundred million years
of instincts.
Kill and eat anything smaller that she is. Efficient and essentially
unchanged in over a hundred million years.
I saw her last month.

I've seen too many movies, but I have to wonder if those sharks are
desensitized to humans.

In the large tank at Monterey they have divers go in and clean and feed,
much to the delight of onlookers spying in via the huge plate windows....I
don't think I envy that job anymore :)

I have done that in a large show tank containing, amongst others, a
groop of 3 sandtiger sharks (from South Africa, about 3.5 m long). When
we worked in the tank we were always in pairs, one doing the work, the
other, equiped with a broom stick, watching the shark. There were also
emergency escapes, just in case.
However, the case never happend, the beasts were so well fed that they
were not interested in trying us out. If one got near, it was enough to
show the broom stick and they would swim away.
However, swimming in a tank with large sharks, with their unblinking
stare, does require a certain amount of nerve. And you know what shark
moms teach their babies: "Don't eat the hard bit on its back, it makes
you fart!"
