View Full Version : Styrofoam In A Tank - Good or Bad?

I recently purchased a feeding ring for my goldfish tank. The red-cap
orandas seem to have a hard time getting the Hikari pellets, so I figured I
would help them out by centralizing the pellets in one location.

Anyways, the feeding ring uses Styrofoam to float (the actual ring is hard
plastic with an inner ring (which is open and touches the water) made of
Styrofoam.

Is Styrofoam safe to have in the tank? Are there any true risks?

Please let me know -

Thanks,

Scott

I've seen lots of other people using styrofoam in their tanks. Check out
what this guy did:

I guess it is safe! Thanks for the link. If anyone else does not think
it's safe, please let me know.

Thanks!

If you want to ask the guy who designed that tank, you can probably "Ping
Netmax" (put those words in your subject line) in
rec.aquaria.freshwater.misc - he is a regular there. If there is a
difference in the types of styrofoam he will know.

You can aviod the situation all together by feeding sinking foods : )

Styrofoam should be fine as long as it did not contain or come into
contact with any soaps, detergents, paints, or anything that could
poison your fish.
