hey i have a 30 gallon aquarium mostly plastic plants but now i brought a
small real plant not sure what its called.

i know these things need light, i have flourescent lighting but how many
hours of light do underwater plants need? i was thinking about a timer but
are concerned with the sleep cycle of the fish. i would like the time to go
from basically the time night hits. i heard plants need at least 12 hours.

im in an apartment and during the day it seems the fish are quite active so
is my concern the apartment is pretty well lit during the day becuase of the
sun.

if a time is a good idea do u have any good suggestions for an easy to use,
inexpensive one?

How big is the tank and how big is the light. I had to cut my tanks to
about 10 hours to reduce the algae on the glass.

the tank is 30 gallon, not sure the size of the light though, i usually
leave my light on at least 3 hours a night, never saw algae, have two botton
feeders and a pleco though. i actually have to drop algae tablets every
other day for the pleco.
