I have nassarius snails and a couple of sand sifting star fish. They are
doing a pretty good job of keeping the top part of the sand stirred. Most of
the times you don't see the snails, just a tube sticking out. They move a
little bit more at night. Be carefull by starfish at some lfs. One store,
( who was reef knowledgeble??? ) Sold me a mushroom and a "sand sifter star"
which then snacked on the mushroom.

I have had real good luck through
Etropics.com
sal****erfish.com

Good luck
Ron

How good of them to not want that poor starfish to starve to death!

This is interesting about your experience with sand sifting star...
What kind/species do you have?
I read about DSB and they do not recommend any sand sifting star in it.
They are usually predatory and make sand pure from other, smaller critters.

Nassarius snails are very good for any tank. They will not eat anything
alive they are only carrion eaters. They do a good job of keeping the
top of the sand clean .

My sand bed is between 3 inches to 6 inches, (depending on the current). We
have in the sandbed

1ea Tiger-striped Fancy Serpent Sea
2ea Sand Sifting Sea Star
nassarius snails
bristle worms
spagetti worms
clams
a brown and white striped worm (a present from the live rock)
fighting conch
blue leged hermits

once a week I put in some chopped shrimp. For the stars and for the anemone.
