View Full Version : Male Platys

I used to have male and female Platys and (of course) the females kept
having babies. I'm now down to two males that get along OK, but
occasionally the larger one briefly chases the smaller one.
Would there be any problem with adding a few more male Platys? I want to
avoid the constant cycle of births that adding females would bring on.
Thanks,
Dave

I don't see why not, you *may* get some initial fighting until the pecking
order is determined though. Don't blame you for not wanting any more
babies for now, my female had 17-20 babies the past 2 months. She ate the
first 7 or eight and I saved the next batch. She hasn't cranked any out in
over a month so maybe her sperm bank ran dry!

I separated all my live bearers by sex 6 months ago, enough fry,
enough!
I did have to move some of the male Platies around, they were chasing
and nipping. Once I found good matches they have been fine.
A strange thing about the male Mollies, several of the males died
shortly after I moved them away from the females. The females were no
trouble. May have been a coincidence, but weird.
