Transferring Refugium

I finally have my new home built sump installed and integrated into my
system. I have an old 10 gallon tank that had been my refugium off
line, but still in good shape.

Question is: How/Should I transfer the contents (especially the sand)
to the new refugium portion of my sump? It is functionally about the
same size. It seems transferring the macro algae would be pretty easy,
but the sand might be a bit messy.

Any tips or hints would be appreciated.

I used a spatula to scoop and place it in the new refugium
when I moved a 2" 1.5yr old fuge sandbed. Be sure to watch
and smell it as you do so. If it has black regions or
smells sulfuric, toss it out and start anew.
