had a loose connection from the return pump in my sump which caused a bit of
a volcanic reaction when the tubing popped off. yes it was a big mess...
but the only thing I had handy was one of those metal plumbing tape things
that you tighten with a screw. The tubing is too thick to tighten with a
zip tie -- and I'm a girl -- not very "tool' saavy. Anyone tell me what I
can use to replace the metal thing -- I'm afraid the metal will rust and
foul my water -- am I right? thanks

What you want to use is a stainless steel hose clamp (metal thing). If
yours is stainless steel it will be good for about a year or 2 before
you will need to replace it.

Yup, your metal thingy is a "Hose Clamp" Hose Clamp good, only if it is
stainless steel. The local auto parts or boat store should have them in SS.
A good quality "MARINE GRADE" hose clamp should work in salt water for a
LOOOONG time.

Michelle, I personally try to avoid any metals in my sal****er. So for now, use
your hose clamp, but do your best to buy a plastic version as soon as you can,
and replace the metal with plastic. You can find them on this site:

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Buy a few, so you have a few extra on
hand.
