View Full Version : Betta colour change

I gather it's nothing to worry about, but I thought I would ask. My newly
acquired deep blue (purple) Betta is changing colour. The first two flowing
fins behind his/her pectoral fins are turning blood red and white. The fish
is very active, eats everything in sight and built a huge bubble nest after
I added some plastic plants.
BTW, there are not any lights installed yet. I'm waiting for the delivery
from A.H. supply.

If this is a young fish, he's just developing his colors. I assume the
finnage looks normal and healthy, with even edges, and not ragged at all.

He looked a little ragged when I first got him, but he seems OK now. The
body is only about an 1.5" long, so it's still a juvenile.

Sometimes the raggedness at the beginning is shipping stress. Or possibly from those tiny containers that some stores keep them in.
Also, be careful of your plastic plants. They can have sharp edges or points that can tear your beautiful fish's fins. And from your description, he is a boy.
May you have tons of joy watching and interacting with your friend!

Yep, he's a Walmart special, so it was likely his tiny bucket.

Once I finish the lights, I'll likely get him a real plant or two.

How can you tell? The bubble nest building?
