My fish are acting like they've been let out of jail.
It's been almost two years since I came on r.a.m.reefs and horrified all
you experienced aquarists with my account of Just Add Water Instant
Sal****er Paradise. Even more upsetting, understandably, was that it
worked.
Into a 20 gallon tank I put a couple inches of aged sorta sand from the
shop, with a few pieces of live rock, and all on the same day added two
little fish, an anemone and a shrimp. I sat back and waited for
disaster and none arrived. At least not more than seems normal. My
track record is spotted with something like a 2 to 1 coral and fish
success rate. That is I've lost more than a third of the corals and
fish I introduced, but with some puzzling successess. I've failed with
the easiest stuff and have had some spectacular success with the
toughies. Can't maintain a single mushroom, but a couple hard corals do
fine.
Like so many of you, I've grown antsy with my nice aquarium, and it has
changed. Last week I moved my community fish to the toad and turtle
tanks, squished the cichlids into their now vacated 38 gallons and
switched the sal****er to the 55. New lights and a couple new fish and
I rearranged everything until my arm was accepted by the fish as just
another coral.
My new tank:

My old tank:

Again, to Mark: thank you, thank you, thank you. Your generosity with
your time and advice is valuable to me. Your RO/DI unit is what made it
possible for me to even think of going to a bigger tank.
