View Full Version : strange apple snail behavior

I recently purchased and albino apple snail from my LFS to put in my 90 gal
planted tank. I have seen the snail 'dig' in my substrate after something
however today when I got home I couldn't find him so after about 10 min
of searching I could see a little patch of his shell behind a leaf on one of
my java ferns. He had almost completely buried himself and I haven't
seen him move much(hasn't come out of his shell more than a few cm)
since I pulled him out. Is this normal? I haven't had snails before so
this
is all new to me.

Thanks in Advance!

Mine don't like being moved much and will tend to do whatever they can
to "hide" for a few days afterwards- they've wound up in some pretty
odd positions as a result.

My guess is that your snail is just fine.

Yes. Mine acted quite odd until he got acclimated to his new surroundings.

Be careful not to assume he is dead too soon, either.

Have you seen www.applesnail.net? That'll keep you busy...
