Hello
I decided to make DSB.
Ron Shimek writes it's the best to have very fine sand.
Does somebody use silica sand for it, or most of you use some kind of
calcite/aragonite sand?
I know both sands will work (somebody wrote it here), but i would't read
about anybody using silica.
As i see "live sand" is real sand - aragonite sand?
Oolitic sand is kind of aragonite sand?

I'm using Silica sand in my 55g's DSB with no problems.
Oolitic sand is the grain size.... very fine and close to silty.
Aragonite sand is calcium based, and is the preferred kind.
Live Sand is sand that has been seeded with life, either by a live kit sold
online, or by getting a cup or two from a local reefer's tank (or refugium) to
get yours going.

Most use aragonite, silica is acceptable.

"Live sand" is just sand that has already been in a functioning system and
has collected the bacteria necessary for nitrification. Some live sands also
have many micro-critters.
| Oolitic sand is kind of aragonite sand?
Oolitic is a special grain type. If you cut it in half, it looks kind of
like the inside of an Everlasting Gobstopper (many layers). olitic grains
are round (mostly), and smooth.
