I've a blue betta since last summer and he's up and about, apparently
healthy and eating. However, I noticed a red streak on his lower fin
that I don't remember being there before. My disease flow chart talks
about red streaks on the body being a sign of internal infection, but
nothing about streaking on the fins. Anyone have any ideas about
this? I've got medicines on hand, but I don't want to dose a fish
that might just be going through a color change (although he seems old
to be doing this). Any clues appreciated.

My betta developed red tips on his handsome blue fins. And that was a
year ago! He was big (seemingly mature) when I got him, too, so I was
also surprised. Just make sure you change his water regularly and keep
him in warm "tropical-fish" water, and well-fed with good food. Mine
get bloodworms alternating with betta pellets, along with whatever live
food happens to be going in the big community tank that week. :-)
