View Full Version : Damned Snakes... NO MORE!

YAY! I found the best snake catching system out there.. my wife! We were out
today, looking at the devistation of the most;ly drained pond (and enjoying
seeing our fish for the first time this year, because of greenwater), and I
noticed slight movement under the liner edge, where I saw the damned things
the other day, and couldn't catch them.
Between the 2 of us, I pulled the liner back, held it, and the wife manage
to get the snakes to wriggle up into my pond net, and she plopped them into
a large plastic trashcan!
It took only 5 minutes to snag both this way!
We tried to call the local pest control departments, but they just to
release them into on of the large lakes around here.
So we released them about 8 miles away, and they and we are both now happy!
Time to put the pond back together now....

Too bad we can't clone your wife and rent
her out!
As a sister female I am in awe of her courage!
My one encounter with a snake was, shall we
say, lacking in dignity! ;-)

Well, It wasn't so much her courage that amazed me, but how well she grabbed
them in her teeth before shaking them, and dropping them in the trashcan!

Good for you guys! :-) I'm glad you didn't kill them as so many people do.
We have a large black snaked hanging around but have no idea where he/she
hides. I think it goes under the outbuilding..... The pro here is we
haven't seen any evidence of mice in the outbuildings or garage in several
years. The con is I'm sure it's the cause of our missing frogs and toads
this year - not enough mice to feed on.

Great news! I hope the pond stays serene now.

All I can say is I am glad the only snakes we get here are grass snakes -
and I freaked when the cat came and dropped half a grass snake on one of my
son's beds a few years ago....
You all have my admiration for tackling them.....I just think I'd stop going
outside....

Well, there werr water snakes, a few feet long, maybe 1-2 inches across at
the biggest.
Funny thing is, the wife was giving me the "big strong man" ribbing, and
then she turned over a rock, and found a black widow spider today.. and
screamed like a little girl! LOL!!
Payback time!

Nah.. if you do, they win!
Oh, and the pond is refilled (I shored up one side some we had torn out a
little getting the snakes), and using plastic wal-mart bags of topsoil
worked out VERY well, and made fixing that side VERY easy. The pond is
actually about 3 inches higher now, we can see the fish surfacing a LOT more
now, and until the algae takes over the new water, at least we can see in it
some.
(The water cress is growing, but very slowly it seems.) we also picked up
another lily today with 4 pads growing on it already. One of my oxygenators
looks like it died off (or was eaten by the fish?) so it's remains are going
back to Lowe's...

I found, that throwing moth balls around the pond, builds a barrier
that repels snakes. After a while, they will go elsewhere. You have
the smell of the mothballs, but only temporarily.

Hmmm... wonder why that is?

=================================
That didn't work for us. I always used mothballs in the outbuildings and
under the house to repel insects .... the snakes still went after the mice
country outbuildings and crawlspaces attract. That sulfur type snake
repellent is also useless.
