View Full Version : Moving 30 gallon tank 3'
I need to move my 30 gallon, freshwater tank approximetly 2-3' to paint
the wall behind the tank.
Any advice on the best way to do this? I'm hoping I can just empty the
tank 1/2 way and slide it but I want to see if anyone else has tried
this first.
I guess if I have too, I'll drain the tank completely but I'm hoping
that is not needed.
Thanks!

I would drain the tank completely because a hex aquarium is more fragile
than a standard aquarium. As in water shifting and putting weight on a 1
piece of glass on the hex.

Thank you for the reply. It is a standard rectangle tank but you still
have a good point.
Thanks!!

I've drained tanks to around 2 or 3 inches of water and moved them.
You're leaving it on the table/stand, right? And sliding everything
over, table and all? I think this is completely safe with only a
couple inches of water in a tank, even though you'll get the water
sloshing back and forth a bit.

We had to move a 50gall (UK) a few inches in order to install an external
filter....the answer was we did it slowly and carefully....quite a bit of
turbulence in the tank though......it was on a stand.....I'd be very
cautious if the structure wasn't quite sturdy.....

Drain 2/3 of the water out and you can safel move it. 1/2 is pushing
it; it will break a thinner tank.
