my airstone is covered in brown algae. What should I do about it?
You can either scrub it under the tap or buy a new airstone.

With as inexpensive as airstones are ( I pay $2.00US for a pack of
ten) it's just not worth the work. I have, on occasion, attempted to,
in the absence of a replacement handy, try to clean them. Most
airstones are rather cheap, and start to fall apart if scrubbed too
vigorously. You might try a bleach\vinegar solution and light
scrubbing if you're interested in being that thrifty.

Vinegar works pretty well. Someone posted about hooking them up to a
bicycle tire pump and blowing the crud out a bit back.
