I had no idea I thought that way. I thought morality for the believer
stems from obedience to God out of gratitude for what God has done for
them. Thanks for clarifying what's going on in my head.

Then you should check out your own religion, pup.

It teaches that moral behavior is rewarded with Heaven,
while immoral behavior is punished with Hell.

While I belive that just as animals are capable of, and display a lot of
very moral behaviour, humans also are created with the same instincts and
senses as any other animal. Notwithstanding the gentic differences making us
somewhat special among the primates. Taking care of infants, cooperation,
and so on - just as visible in the animal word. Adn look at elephants
grieving (if that is what it is, they are not unconcerned) their dead.

What would the world look like if all atheists were the monsters that
Christians seem to think they must be?

While the reality is that atheists as a rule are just as moral, and evne can
surpaass the average Christian in morality. How is that possible? Christian
hubris.

For sure I am more moral than the fundies. At least I don't go around
lying about science.

While Lobo deVolf may well have been in error regarding the motives
and "inner life" (so to speak) of devout persons, I don't think you can
deny that there is an absurdly large amount of evidence -- various
much-repeated instances of behavior on the part of certain Believers,
and sizeable chunks of the Holy Books revered by said Believers, to
name only two classes of this evidence -- which provides *very* solid
support for deVolf's assertions...
