View Full Version : Where did everyone go?

This NG used to be packed with a few hundred new posts every day. Now
there is hardly anything going on. Did everyone move on to a web
based forum and if so which one.

I haven't been posting much lately for a couple of reasons. The more time
that passes, the more experience I get and less questions to ask, also, I am
up to 20 fish tanks now (no, not all sal****er and no, I don't think that is
too many tanks, lol) and that takes most of my time, aside from work.

I've been hanging around here for the better part of 3 years, I I
don't remember there ever being "a few hundred" posts a day. It has
been steadily dropping off though, as more and more web based forums
(I hate em, image intensive, no organization, can't follow
threads...there ARE no threads!!!) pop up and younger netizens fail
to be made away of NNTP in the first place.

I know I looked at this newsgroup several times over the past year when
I've been toying with setting a SW tank and I seem to remember there
being a lot more on here, have been wondering if I was looking at a
different NG.
And I agree about the web based forums, the ones you have to be
subscribed too and I useless to search and just go on for ever.
One I've been looking at has lots of useful stuff but I daren't ask any
questions because people seem to get almost rude replies if the question
has already been asked.

Hello Martin,
The truth is that ALL the questions have been asked previously !! Many
people quickly forget (or try to) that they were "newbies" in the
past. You can learn a lot very quickly on the internet, but there will
always be a few smartarses who try to denigrate novices, who then
become reluctant to ask further questions.
Regards, Fishnut.

Hello Phatty,
Yes, I remember when there were many replies each day. If you hadn't
read the messages for a week, it was almost impossible to catch-up.
The technical arguments between (say) Jimmy Chen and Boomer used to
continue for weeks, with other regulars chipping-in as they thought
fit - very educational to a "newbie", and also very amusing. Oh for
the good-old-days.
Regards, Fishnut.

I lost everything in Hurricane Ivan...
Looking for a lot to build a new house
then I'll start over.
I have all my rock and sand is a rubbermaid trash can with
wet towels, but I haven't lifted the lid in months. LOLOL
I'll have to throw them in the gulf inside a couple crab traps
for 6 months or so. :-)

A lot of people refer to websites that have bigger
audiences, quicker response time, and nicer graphics.
www.reefcentral.com has a bunch of specific forums on
various sal****er related topics, photo galleries, and over
90,000 members. That is where my attention tends to focus.
Then I focus on my own website, linked below.

You shouldn't have any problems with rude people on Reef Central. If they are rude, they
get booted pretty quickly. Very nice peeps there.

perhaps you should learn how to use the SEARCH function, or just browse
groups? you know why people get rude? because dumbasses like you cannot
grasp the concept of searching. on coral forum, all the info is right out
where i need it. if i have a question, i ask and dont get flamed. maybe
phrase your questions a little more professionally.. HTH!

And people who respond to posts the way you just did are the ones who
get 86'd, not the people who haven't yet learned the ins and outs of
searching the internet.
Go back in your hole, please, and let those of us with some maturity
handle the "help".

LOL! This is exactly the kind of post that would be deleted on a moderated website.
