Thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware a feather duster worm looks much like some
sort of plant. This poor illustration below this text is similar to what it
looks like.

Looking into the tank as I write this, it appears there are about 2-3 of them
and about maybe an inch in height. I just seen the new growth on the rock and
got excited not knowing what it was, so just had to ask. Once again, thanks for
the reply!!

Depends on what the make up of it is.. if it's a hard tube with the critter
coming out the top then it would be a tubeworm.. if the body is all *soft*
looking, from where it comes out of the rock on up, then you've got
something else. I don't think inch long tubeworms appear overnight. Things
like polyps and aiptasia though will close up and sometimes seem as if they
completely vanish, then when they come back out, might appear that they just
grew suddenly.. any way you can post a picture somewhere?

Yes I may be able to post a picture. I'll get back to you on that one, I did
find something that very closely resembles what it looks like at
The bottom picture on this page very closely resembles what is in my tank.

It's 11:15pm right now and the lights are off so I can't really say What the
status of them are, as I write this, however I've also noticed over the last
24-36 hours I've noticed brown patches of algae on the aragonite. I can't
believe just how much algae popped up nearly over night. I'm sure it's a good
thing, however currently, there is only 12-13lbs of LR in the tank. And I was
going to put the full 60-70lbs in there to cycle the tank, which I'll do in a
few weeks. I probably won't be adding any creatures until around CHristmas or
so. Thanks for the reply!!!

Those are tube worms. Very common on live rock. They are harmless filter
feeders.

I have noticed more and more of them in my live rock over the last two
months. I enjoy watching them and it seems that I see a new variety pop
out every two weeks or so. The last one to just pop out looks like a
mint lifesaver with little tentacles. This hobby is kind of cool.
