My 30 gallon planted tank is in a room with several windows... My current
photo period is 12 hours (Noon until Midnight)... From around sunrise until
Noon, the tank is being hit with sunlight from the windows which I think is
promoting some of my algae growth on the glass...

Would there be any benefit for me to light the tank earlier in the day to
try and override the sunlight?? Say turn on the tank lighting at 8 or 10:00
AM and run a 14 hour photo period?

Or, am I just being completely ridiculous!?

Thanks,
Troy

Most tropicals do best with around 10-12 hours of lightings. You will
not have enough light to override direct sun, even if you did it would
be additive anyway. You might try shading the windows early in the
morning. Or give the tank a break in the early afternoon by not having
the lights on until late afternoon or early evening.
