29 G tank
Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrate - 2.5
Temp - 78
PH - 8.2
Salinity - 1.023
130 watt 50/50 compact PC lighting
HOB CPR refugium with skimmer, sand and live rock
40 pounds live rock and DSB
10% water change twice a week
2 clownfish
1 strawberry dottyback
1 cleaner shrimp
orange sun coral (new polyps budding)
Christmas worm rock
2 pulsing zenias (spreading over rock)
2 large feather dusters
open red brain coral (new addition)
Green button polyps (new addition)
Yellow Leather
assorted snails (that are reproducing)
7 blue leg hermit crabs
Feed tank DT's phytoplankton every other day, take sun coral out of tank and
feed it every other day (so I don't pollute the tank). I've had the Leather
for about 1 month and it has always been bright yellow and open all day.
Added green button polyps and open red brain coral to tank on Monday. Both
are eating small pieces of shrimp. The yellow leather has stayed shriveled
since polyps and brain coral were added and is a dull yellow, not the bright
color it was. Is there something about the button polyps or brain coral
that the leathers don't like? Do leather corals just "sulk" occasionally?
No critter is touching anyone else - they are at least 4 inches away from
each other. Everything in the tank looks good except my poor leather. Any
ideas?

parameters look decent.....IMO....don't feed the coral for quite a
while.....you may be giving it "too much care"......

My Sinularia will occasionally stay shriveled up, with no polyp
expansion. The first time this happened, I was worried, but read
somewhere that this is normal, and when it opens up again it will be
bigger than before. Don't worry unless it goes for more than a couple
(4) days.

The leather opened up a little today and we can see some necrotic areas. I
think there may be some chemical warfare going on because of the timing of
the problem. We removed the leather to a hospital tank and will see how it
behaves in the next couple of days. I guess the next step would be to cut
off the damaged areas and keep is separated.
If anyone ever told me a year ago I'd be setting up a hospital tank and
contemplating surgery on a coral I would have thought they were crazy. Now
I can't bear to think this beautiful animal may perish.
