I finally got all the pond plants out of my "community tank" this week, so I
paid a visit to the LFS today.

Came home with 4 "Golden Rosy Barbs", 3 Tiger Barbs, a Yoyo Loach, 4
Cardinal Tetras and 4 Caboomba (sp?). I probably shouldn't have bought
everyone at once, but it's done now. WTH are Golden Rosy Barbs anyway, just
mislabelled Golden Barbs? The first little while it was a free for all, with
the Golden Barbs annoying the Tiger Barbs and the Loach. The Loach was doing
his share of chasing the Tiger Barbs and they would occasionally give chase
too. The only ones behaving themselves were the Tetras. We'll see how they
are behaving tomorrow.

I gather I should probably double the number of Tiger Barbs to keep them
peaceful?

There is a gold color variety of rosy barbs (Puntius conchonius).
That's probably what you have. Gold barbs have a different body shape
and markings from rosies so they're not likely to be confused by a fish
store.

I've never kept tiger barbs because I've seen so many people here post
about having trouble with them. Pity, because I think they're a very
attractive and lively fish. Like you, I've gathered that the bare
minimum to keep them mostly occupied with each other is six or seven.

Thanks Elaine,

Fortunately, there weren't any casulaties during the night. I'm a little
worried about the Tetras, since my PH is a tad high for them. I've got some
"real" CO2 on order (if they ever ship) and I plan to remove the Aragonite
from the filter, so this should help them out a bit.

The group dynamic is still in flux, although the Golden Barbs seem to be a
bigger PITA than the Tiger Barbs. There is one Golden Barb who will go out
of his way to chase anything and anyone. I'm going to introduce him to the
GoldFish (Lunch) is he doesn't settle down. The Loach seems to be minding
his own business, except when bothered, then he has no trouble looking after
himself. The Tiger Barbs occaisonally seem to school, although mostly not,
so I think I'll get three more. I also need to increase the Tetra population
if they work out.
