Hi Guys,
I've started to pre-mix & store my salt water (for quicker water changes in
my reef tank).
I'm storing 60 litres (15.85 US liquid Gallons). I have it in a container
with a good fitting lid & stored in a dark cool place.
I use a powerhead to help when mixing, should I leave the powerhead going
all the time to keep the water agitating, or should I turn it off to leave
the water calm, once all the salt has dissolved & it's all mixed ready for
use?
Cheers
Glenn P.
I would guess that others may tell you to keep the powerhead going all
the time. All I can tell you is about my practical experience. I keep
a 45 gallon barrel of sal****er at most times. I normally turn off the
pump once the salt is dissolved, and have left it there and used it a
month later without problem for water changes.

Once you get it mixed well, cap it and you could let it sit for a
very long time. I make up water up to 2 weeks before I need it, and
I'm sure it would be fine much longer.

The accepted practice on storing sal****er and or RODI is so varied
forum by forum its unreal.
I however keep sw in 20 gal containers in a cool dark place with a
simple air stone to keep it circulating for a month or more at a time,
and do nothing special with rodi except store it in clean containers
in cool dark place. Just make sure the container has no organic
materials in it, and sw and rodi will last a long long time.
