View Full Version : corydoras courting?

Two of my shy retiring corydoras have started frantically chasing each
other around the tank, nibbling at each other and swimming well up off
the bottom. Either they've developed a mutual hatred, or they're
courting. I couldn't find any thing online about this behavior.

If someone knows whether or not this is courting behavior or fighting,
please let me know. Thanks.

If you can see any difference in the two fish, one of them is heavier
or fatter or broader (this would be the female), then it can be
courting behavior.

Thanks.

It appears they were courting. Little groups of eggs are appearing all
over the tank :-). I can't do much about the ones on the glass, but I
found a couple of dozen on a smooth rock and I took it out and put it in
an unused 2.2 gallon tank with a heater and an airstone. We'll see what
happens.

Maybe you've already done this, but in case: The airstone should be
placed very close to the rock and eggs to get water movement around
the eggs. The air bubbles shouldn't be touching the eggs, but
otherwise as close as you can get the airstone. I don't know if this
is done anymore, but in the old days it was also recommended putting a
little Methylene blue in a tank with eggs, to help prevent fungus.
