Otto compatibility

Will Ottos cohabitate with Tiger Barbs or are they a bit too aggressive for
the Otto? Also will the Ottos get along with my Yoyo Loach? If not, can I
move the Loach in with my Betta?

I have two ottos with my african cichlids which are very agressive and
they seem to just ignore them. probably cause most of the time they
are stuck to the wall or laying on the gravel, so probably just blend
in with the rest of the soroundings. i have also had my ottos with a
weather loach and they got along fine. i would be cautious about
putting anything with a betta. i have tested some fish with bettas and
it seems like compatablilty is totally up to the personality of the
betta. mine in particular was very aggressive twards anything that was
yellow, orange or red. but i have had success with putting bettas with
my bottom feeding spotted rapheal. i don't even think that the betta
knew it was a fish. he actually layed right on top of him. niether
seemed to bother. well i hope my experience will help you.

Ottos should go fine in a tank with tiger barbs. However I think the
barbs are a little too fast for the ottos to catch them, much less
cohabitate with them.

The problem isn't that the otos might hurt the tiger barbs, the
problem is that tiger barbs are aggressive b*stards, pretty much
guaranteed to harass/hurt/kill any shy & peaceful fish they're kept
with - like, for instance, otos.

The Yo-Yo's I have at least, will investigate the Oto's from time to
time, but the little guys don't get too stressed from it. When they
decide they've had enough, they zip away and that's the end of it. If
they truly fely stressed from it, they'd probably just hide instead of
sitting out in the open.

Yes the T' Barbs were definitely a PITA when I first got them. But since I
added a few more they tend to bother each other, rather than the other fish.
They occasionally chase the Loach, but he tends to hold his own.

Once they've killed off all the easy targets, the slow, small, timid
or long-finned fish, you get to a kind of peaceful plateau - until a
fish to show signs of weakness, for instance become ill, then they'll
pounce.
They only attack fish they perceive to be defenceless.

Tiger barbs were the reason I stayed clear of everything barb for
almost 20 years. Ironically I have since found that the wretched tiger
barbs are in a class all their own, and pretty much all other smaller
barbs are good community fish, and usually better-looking to boot.

The size of the tank and the amount and thickness of the plant cover will
always have some influence. Also the number of Tigers and/or loaches
will affect their behaviour. Tigers will not penetrate too deeply into
plants to chase down an Oto, so if you have lots of plants, then it's a
moot question. Loaches can be a bit more determined, but it's usually
short lived if it takes too much effort. Betta behaviour is too variable
to make any predictions. Generally is works out (as it would with Tigers
and/or loaches as well), but the occasional Betta is a power on to
itself. Otos don't generally bother anyone but the slowest Angelfish or
Discus, and even that varies according to their health, habits and food
supply. I think you'll be fine with a large enough tank (20g +).

i have a group of 7 tigers mixed with a lot of peacful fish and have
had no problems. they even do good with my sick beta that just sits at
the bottom of the tank. tigers tend to only be aggressive with
themselves if schooled, and they do it all in fun.
