View Full Version : Size of Emperor filters

I am thinking of buying an Emperor Bio Wheel filter (400 or possibly 2
280s) but need to know the physical size of them 1st (need to make sure
it fits). None of the LFS carry Marineland in my area so if I decide to
buy it it will be mailorder. Can anyone supply me the outside
dimensions (length and width would be fine)?

Thanks!

According to my www.thatpetplace.com catalog (paper) the 280's dimensions
are - 9 1/2" x 7" x 10" inches and the 400s is 16 1/2" x 7" x 10 1/2". Good
fortune to you!

I have a couple of 400's, and those are indeed the dimensions. Some
additional information that might be useful is that the rear of the unit
projects 4.5" from the back and 7" below the top of the tank when
mounted in place.

Looking at the design of the 280 vs. the 400 in the owner's manual,
I suspect you'd get twice the flow of water through two 280's compared
to one 400, since they appear to have identical impellor units and
uptake tubes. The drawings and dimensions quoted above also suggest
that you'll need the same clearance behind your tank for the 280 and
the 400.
