My tank looks decidedly bare(the one piece of 'furniture' my fish has is a
small holow castle, which he sleeps in msot nights).
I was thinking about gettign some form of plant to brighten the tank up. I
don't know about live plants as there's the water chemsirty to watch for
there i guess, and im new t all this (why is my garden pond back home so
much simpler!). What about fake plants? do goldfish have any problemw ith
them, do i need them to be amde of certain types of materials?
hope someone has some pointers i can use :)
thanks

Adam,
Java Fern and Java Moss are good. As are Elodea (grow fast, but goldies can
sometimes
nibble them).

Hi Adam, Goldfish are fine with fake plants. I prefer to use silk over
plastic because I think they look better but your fish won't care
either way. Live plants are a good thing but you will need to look
after them a bit and your fish will probably find them good to eat!

One word of caution with decorations (or anything in the tank): unlike other
animals who know enough not to try and get into a small space because
they'll get stuck, goldfish are just dumb enough to try. Stay away from
anything a fish can potentially swim under, behind, into and get stuck. I
used to have fake grass that rose up about 1/3 inch and then spread out
horizontally and was unmovable. That small space was just enough for "Mr
Boots" to meet its demise in.
Oh well,
