View Full Version : help with overflow design

hello,
I'd like comments on this design.
I have a standard 55 gallon. I'm wondering if drilling a hole for a
1.5 " bulkhead about 6" from the top of the tank, a 90% elbow and
standpipe would work? I'd like to reduce the exit of the bulkhead
going into the sump to 1".
Has anyone done this type of setup? I do not have the luxury of
tearing my tank apart for an internal overflow.
thanks,
Albert Lazo

That would be about same as the "U" tubes in overflow filters. Air
bubbles always accumulate in the bends of those type tubes and would
probably happen in your 90 degree angle also. Otherwise I don't know
what to say.

the design is NOTHING like a U-tube. it will work perfectly and will never
get air traped in it. there are many tanks with this design out there.
