Amquel - how much to put in

Ok, here is a dumb question for you. The direction on amquel says 1
tsp per 10 gallon water. I have a 60 gallon tank and if I replace 30
gallons for water change, do I add 3 tsp for 30 gallons being replaced
or full 6 tsp again for 60 gallons? I've been adding 6 tsp each time
and just realized that it may be more than necessary and could be
harmful. Thank you for any advice.

You would treat for the amount of water you are replacing, thus it
would be the 3 tsp for the 30 gallons. If you tapwater comes in with
ammonia, and many do, you could add more to compensate.

It depends on how you are adding the water back to your tank. If you
are preconditioning in buckets, then just treat for the amound being
replaced. If you are using a python and adding water directly to your
tank then you need to treat for the entire tank volume (60 gallons in
your case)

Why would you double-treat? That seems like overkill.

I sometimes get lazy and treat in tank. Squirt the appropriate amount
into a corner and fill the tank in that corner. Never any problems.
