View Full Version : Lost my guppy last night.
Hi,
Sadly I lost my male guppy last night.
I found it this morning being sucked by the filter...
The only sign that I could notice on hom was that his back fin looked
like it was cracking and pieces were missing.
The temp was showing 27, it's been hot around here lately, so last
night I put some ice cubes to bring the temp down, it only came down
1degree celsius.
Anyway, what makes it sadder is that this little fella was part of the
first batch of fish I bought for my tank.
He was a hardy alright, went thru three ich attacks, the initial
cycling set up and me messing with the tank all the time.
He was cute too and funny to look at.
He was a special fish for me for all that he went thru and I will miss
him.
He stays in the tank, the red crabs will take care of him in a way it
will always stay in the tank. :)
Now all I have left from that first batch are just three neons.

I am sorry to read that you lost your guppy. You've had a heck of a time
getting started in fishkeeping it seems - but take heart you have learned a
lot. Keep providing a good home for your pets, that's a lot better of a home
you have there rather than the pet store or some breeding vat in singapore.
Good luck, later!

I know how attached I become to certain fish so I can imagine what you
are saying. How old was your guppy?
My tanks range in setup age from 2 to two and a half years. Over the
years I have lost many fish, but usually to illness of one sort or
another. Lately I noticed I have had almost no illness nor deaths in
the tanks. Is this the calm before the storm?
I understand that age will vary widely by species. My live bearers
seem to have had more illnesses and died more frequently than the egg
layers. So, again, I wonder how old your guppy lived to be.

Well my tank is only five months old.
Dont know how old the guppy was.
But it's just I've read that guppy are fragil and not tolerant at all
and I had a fighter. :)
He was cool.

It's always sad to lose fish :-(
When we lost all of my son's fish from our first tank I was devastated. It
was our first tank :-(
Sadly, I think you become hardened to the loss of the odd tetra or guppy but
it's not nice all the same....

It is always hard to lose a fish, but when you spot one that is unique
it is so much harder. I fear it goes with "fishing." I was talking
with a friend who has bought a number of fish lately that have died.
I went to her house and we checked off every thing we could think of,
but came up with the (internet order) fish all seemed so young and
seemed to grow very fast before they died. Both of us have had fish
for awhile and were used to healthy fish. The young ones looked
young, that is the remaining ones plus her older fish seemed healthy.
In this case the mystery is upsetting.
You are not the first person to say they had heard guppies are fragil.
I haven't had guppies since I was a kid, but have always thought of
them as very hardy. I just like larger fish and recently have decided
no more live bearers.
Good luck on your future fish.
