View Full Version : Veiltail Moor Activity

I have a new veiltail black moor. His fins are at leat twice as long as
any fish I've ever had.

Question: He seems to prefer "floating" in an open area in our 40g tank
(he's alone at the moment). Eats fine. Looks for bits of food
periodically. Seems Ok otherwise.

But activity level is really low.

Is this to be expected from more "finny" fish, or should I be looking
for a problem. Water parameters are fine. Tank is clear.

I am hesitating adding another fish until I'm certain he's not
harboring something. He's been in the tank for 3 weeks.

Nank,

How many fish do you have, what types, how big is the tank, how often
do you replace water, what are the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH levels?

These will help form an accurate answer.

Sorry, I've had bronchitis...

Anyway, had only the one black moor in the 37 gallon tank. New setup.
Cycled with Stability. Did notice after writing message that Stress
Guard was not compatible with another product I was using. Did 25% watr
change, used PRIME to dechlor, and saw immediate improvement.

Water paramaters very good, although PH is high - 8.4. Water clear, no
ammonia (had to change test kits), no nitrites, very little nitrates.

Added a 3" oranda 2 days ago - and suddenly they are playing!!! Eating
fine. Watching them closely as I am anxious.

Sounds good. 8.4 is a little high (mine is 8.2). Should be fine as long
as you don't get any ammonia, its far more toxic at higher PH levels
so keeping your stocking levels sensible (which it sounds like you are)
will help a great deal.

How is air being mixed with the water?

??? I don't understand your question. I have double filtration and two
air stones + one bubble disk -- plenty of air.
