View Full Version : What is it?

I bought a live rock with a feather duster and a bunch of what looked like
white worms on it. After having it in the tank for about a month the white
started turning green. I just bought a set of lights yesterday (1 power
compact 65 watt, 10,000K, Premium-Daylight and 1 power compact 65 watt,
Ultra-Actinic) and now the color is going back to white and some of them are
getting what looks like a filter feeding type thing on their ends. So far I
have counted 11 that have developed the filter looking things. They are
very small as can be seen at this link
http://webpages.charter.net/sal****er/ Can anyone tell me what they are and
if they are going to be a problem? I've also noticed what look like very
small clear beetles running across the rock but they were gone before I
could get to the camera. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

They're fan worms (ie. very small feather dusters). They are harmless
filter feeders.

Will these grow to be large or do they stay the size they are now?

They stay quite small. I've had them in my tank since it's inception (about
1 year now) and most have a "fan" no larger than 3/8".
