hi everyone
my goldies got white spot, now i should give u a little more details,ok,this is my first time to have goldfish as pets, infact my first time for fish at all...and ive grown to love them so much, anyway yesterday i noticed white spots on them and found out from the net the name ich, ick,or white spot,i got them 2 type of meds, one is called aquadene genral aid special ,and the other one is ichthyo medik from prodac.i used aquadene, and will keep using it for no less than 14 to 16 days...ive raised the water temp to 29F and changed 20% of the tank water before adding aqua sana (water conditioner) then the med.One of my babies, the baby of the tank is not as active as usual, and keeps still for long minutes maybe hours under a log..what else should i do? i dont want any of them to die..please help me,i dove them ever so dearly...

1. How long have you had your goldies and
2. how many do you have
3. in what size aquarium?
If you have them only a few days or weeks, you are probably going
through a cycle. Look up GOLDFISH on the internet and read about tank
cycling.
If more - like a few months -- then you have a problem with your water
quality that will continue to get worse. If your tank is overcrowded,
you may need to split up the remaining fish.
In either case, change 25% of your water right away. Make sure you use
chlorine remover to detox it before putting it into your tank. And make
certain the temperature is the same (I use my kitchen digital
thermometer!) Replace the water SLOWLY and watch your fish carefully in
case it's a PH problem.
If you notice improvement, you have too many toxins or ammonia in the water.
There are quick fixes to hold you until you can split up the fish or
add filtration, but you need to find out what the problem is first. I
hope it's not too late to help you!

Temp at 29F ????
Check your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH levels too - this could be
stressing your fish.
I always use Aquarium salt to treat ich - I never use it with meds though.
Do you also have good water movement to ensure good oxygen exchange?

Geezer,
Do you use the salt as a dip or put it directly into the tank?

If I had new fish I would use a strong concentration and dip them
then quarantine.
If it definitely is Ich - which it sounds like, I'd leave
them in tank with a 0.3% salt level - this is roughly
1 table spoon of salt per gallon of water. Always add in 3 doses
over 24 hours. 12 hours between each dose - which would be
1 table spoon per 3 gallons at each interval.
Dissolve in tank water before adding to the tank!

firstly thanks ever so much for the replys.
- Had them for 3 weeks now
- 8 little darlings, i know its over crouded, but since they were a Bday gift had no choice in that. How can i make life easier to cope with until i can afford a new tank?
- 20 gallon tank.
As to the water temp ,yes im worried too, but according to to info on the net, the raising of water temp speeds the life cycle of the ich, which will make a better chance at catching up on them faster.what do you think?
Water movement is done by a fountain filter, therefore i should imagine ,or hope its ok,but would be greatful if there are any ideas as to improving it,or anything else for that matter.
Someone mentioned salt, now that i HAVE used the meds, can i use the salt?
i dont have a water testing kit, will get one by tomorow.
Today 3 of them lost the white spots on them, good sign? My baby Koko (the smallest) is still not as active as usual, but i think the white sopts are not as many as he had yesterday...
I hate it when people bring animals they dont know how to care for, before fully learning about their needs, but seriously,i had never planned this,it just happend and i dont want to cause them more stress than they already are in....

Ok
20 Gallon is only big enough for two fish - definitely do something about
stocking levels.
Speeding the lifecycle is a good thing as they will break off and breed!

I usualy solve white spot or ich problems by isolate the fish, do a short
salt water bath (one or two mins), then change the water every day.
Malachit or Methylene blue don't seem to work for me. Copper Sulphate I
guess is too strong so I only try it last.

Some fish like Goldfish is very sensitive to salts - some fish like guppies
or mollies like it though (in fact, in Singapore, most guppies and
livebearers are reared brakish waters). Goldishes may go into shock if too
much salt is added.
I only do salt water baths. I also do not believe in medicines.
Water change is most important I guess.
