July 5th 05, 07:50 PM
Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with king crabs at all?

I was on a trip last weekend and stopped on a local pet store and they
had a king crab for sale.

It looked interesting, with a big attitude and I just loved it. :)

But I dont know much about these critters and a search on google only
ends up in recipes. :)

Anyone here with some experience on these guys that would like to share?

Did you try asking on the sal****er NGs? If you're talking about edible
king crabs (Paralithodes spp.), they live off of the Alaskan coast and
grow to a foot across. Seems like you would need a minimum 200 gallon
sal****er tank with a chiller to get down to Alaskan temps.

I thought so, this is a good to keep in a tank. :)

The guy was small, hmmm 2" at most.
The lfs guy said he could double it's size that's all he knew about it.

I once had a blue crayfish, it turned out to be a right monster!. Also have
had a red clawed crab to. He was OK, but they like to be able to get out of
the water and tend to hide away where ever they can. Mine climbed my filter
box and started to stay in the top of it.

I feed him by hand most of the time, when I did he would come up out of the
filter and rap one claw around my finger, and while holding my hand there he
would grab the food with the other. He also placed food out of the water on
the top of the filter box to eat later. It was funny watching him using his
little hands and arms.
