Hi folks,
I've had an unknown algae growing in my sump/refugium for some time now, and
I thought I'd see if anyone can tell me what it is. I've done a search on
Google, and the best I can come up with is that it won't hurt anything. It
looks like pink/purple cotton. Sorry no pictures, but hopefully the
description will do.
Thanks,
Royce

That is unusual color for algae
- are you sure it is not a kind of sea sponge?

I think I know what you are talking about I have some in my tank as well
I just read an article in Sea Scope. I don't recall what issue it was
but I will look for it and let you know soon.

Thanks Marc, that helps with pictures of it, but I'd still like to know a
little bit about it. I haven't seen any in my tank, only in the sump. I
just remove the bulk of it every couple of weeks.

You can do a google.groups search for "Pink Cotton Candy" to find a few posts
about it, but really all I know about it is what was discussed here, and that
article that was posted a few months later.

Google searches like "pink cotton candy" really show the diversity of the
Internet with their results.

That is why I suggested a google.groups search. Why, what did you find? ;)

I wish I would have seen this post 3 months ago......
For those who want to see how bad the red turf can get look at these
pictures.
http://home.fuse.net/wagz/Old125
The first picture is before it got really bad.
At any rate, I tried everything to eat it, starve it, suck it out etc.
I finally gave up, pulled all the corals out, put them in their own tank,
tossed 130lb of live rock in to tubs and tossed it out.
Then decided to replace the tank with a drilled 125. Ironically the snails
I picked up at premium this past weekend were mex turbos......

For those who have trapped a few bristle worms, I pulled one that was 2
feet long out of a rock, and found a 36" one in the deep sand bed.
