View Full Version : Black eyes

I have a nice size shebunkin that I just noticed has one "bull's-eye"
colored eye and one solid black eye. I can't say if it has always been this
way or the black eye has developed recently. The fish was born in my
outside pond but has been in an indoor aquarium for about a year or so.
Is it common for a fish to have two distinctly different eye colors or do I
have a sick fish?
No other apparent symptoms.
Thanks,
Tom in Howell, NJ

Tom,
Pigmentation does differ on many fishes, especially the calico and
red/white varieties.

Nothing to be concerned about. If the eye appears cloudy and/or has white
fluff on it then this would be sight of disease. Pond born fish that have
not been 'selected' will often have striking colour changes in the first few
years of life.
