Now see, this is a perfect example of people wanting to share info freely
with no log-in required!
Not only do they share their excellent online publication and all its
archives, the BB does not require you to log-in to view its contents...

Reefs.org is my idea of how RC should be.

Of particular note is the second article:

> Feature Article: An Experimental Comparison of Sandbed and Plenum-Based
> Systems: Part 2: Live Animal Experiments
> By Robert Toonen and Christoper Wee

This is part two of the experimental study that was discussed in this
newsgroup a month ago. Part 1 tested tanks with no bioload. This part 2
is more realistic, including live rock, scavengers, and some fish.

Conclusions include:
our experiment shows that the presence of a plenum has no measurable
benefits over simply depositing the same sediments directly on the
bottom of the aquarium
and
Overall, both the results of the dosing and live animal experiments
suggest that there is no measurable difference between most of these
common sediment filtration designs for maintaining suitable water
parameters. There were no significant differences among depth,
particle size or plenum treatments for the processing of ammonia or
nitrite in recirculating aquarium systems.
