Hi there,

I posted a while back about a black neon tetra that was swimming at an
upward angle of 45 degrees for a while. I wasn't over feeding, water
quality was good and I couldn't tell what the hell was going on. He
looks to be much better, eating again and swimming more normally,
however I noticed that his dorsal fin seemed to be torn. Could be be
getting beat up or could this be a sign of disease?

The rest of the fish seem fine and I'd like to add some more fish. Any
and all responses are greatly appreciated!

Most likely one of the other fish has nipped him, taking a piece out
of the fin. Or in theory a small fish like this might possibly get
sucked onto the intake of your filter, in swimming away he leaves a
piece of the fin behind.

Usually a disease (bacterial) affecting the fins would be fin and tail
rot, but then the fins will start rotting inwards from the outside
edge which would also be white. So I don't think this torn fin is a
sign of disease.
